The Research on AI in School Education (RAISE) Lab is commitment to advancing the innovative, safe and effective use of AI in Education. RAISE is open to working with all schools, teachers, educational leaders and researchers to achieve these goals. The Lab is also committed to nurturing the next generation of educational researchers through school-based research collaborations and higher degree research programs.

Matt Bower is a Professor in the School of Education whose current research focuses on how we can use generative AI innovatively and safely to advance learning outcomes.
Jodie Torrington manages the Macquarie University Teachers’ Learning Hub and researches how educators can maintain professional agency develop student self-regulated learning in digital contexts.
Jennifer Lai is a researcher whose work focuses on evaluating the use of educational technologies, particularly generative AI.
Hua-Chen Wang is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Education whose current research focuses on how generative AI can support literacy development for multilingual learners and children who struggle with reading.
John De Nobile is an Associate Professor in the School of Education whose research interests include enhancing pre-service teacher classroom management capabilities using AI and addressing pre-service teacher concerns about behaviour.
Emilia Djonov is an Associate Professor in the Macquarie School of Education whose research interests include how AI technologies shape teachers’ and students’ multimodal compositions and knowledge about language, visual design and other communication modes.
Hye-Eun Chu is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Education whose current research focuses on how dialogic AI can support students’ conceptual refinement and meaning-making through scientific representations and explanations.
Bronwyn Tregenza is Lecturer in STEM and Digital Technologies in the Macquarie School of Education undertaking research on cultivating creativity with digital technologies which includes teachers’ use of AI in virtual reality and photogrammetry projects.
Karen Woo is a digital technologies education researcher at Macquarie University whose work spans coding and computational thinking, educational screen use and generative AI.
Emma C Burns is an Honorary Associate Professor in the Macquarie School of Education whose research interests focus on students’ and teachers’ motivation to use AI and how it shapes self-beliefs about learning.
